8:00 AM - 8:30 AM	Plenary Session - Modernizing the State and Local Model Procurement Code For nearly fifty years, the American Bar Association’s Model Procurement Code (MPC) for State and Local Governments has endured as the benchmark framework guiding how state and local governments spend public money ethically, fairly, and to good effect for citizens. Since it was first drafted in 1979, over 20 states and hundreds of local governments have adopted some or all of the model code. Now, nearly 25 years after the MPC's last revision in 2000, a collaborative group of entities and volunteers has begun drafting revisions to the MPC to develop a revised Code for eventual adoption by state and local governments. This session will cover the history of the MPC, the status of the MPC revision project, and provide some early insights from the project’s drafting committees.
