Appeals

An appeal is a formal request made by an individual (hereinafter referred to as “appellant”) who is either seeking or retaining the NIGP-CPP certification administered by the NIGP Certification Commission. The appellant is requesting special consideration regarding a specific decision made by the NIGP Certification Commission or its representatives.

Appealable decisions include those made regarding application denial, certification attainment, recertification attainment, and suspension or revocation decisions.

Appeal Submission

The only means to appeal a decision is through the Formal Online Appeals processes.
Within 20 business days following the date of any written decision or Official Score Report, the appellant must submit an electronic NIGP Certification Appeals Tracking Form. The purpose of this Appeals Form is to serve as a single document that tracks all activities, documents, and dates throughout the appeals process to ensure fairness and accountability to all parties.
The initial data that is provided on the electronic Appeals Form by the appellant includes:

  • The name, contact information, and signature of the appellant
  • The date of the appeal
  • The specific reference from the NIGP-CPP Requirements Manual that is subject to the appeal
  • The specific reason(s) why the appellant is appealing the decision or reference to include any uploaded documentation that supports the reason(s)
  • The electronic Appeals Form and any accompanying documentation is sent electronically to the NIGP Director of Certification.

No informal appeals shall be considered. All Appeals must be submitted via the electronic NIGP Certification Appeals Tracking Form.

Please refer to the NIGP-CPP Requirements Manual for more detailed information. It is the individual’s responsibility to follow all policies, processes, procedures, and timelines. The Manual includes the detailed information necessary to submit a formal appeal.

No appeal shall be considered if it is received more than 20 business days after the date of the written decision or Official Score Report.
