A Year in Review — Reflections and the Road Ahead

As we close out our program year in June, I want to take a moment to reflect on what we’ve accomplished together and where we're headed. This update is grounded in what I’ve heard from you over the past year—through conversations, feedback, and survey data. It’s my opportunity to share what we’ve accomplished, where there’s still more work to do, and how your feedback continues to shape our direction.

Advancing Professional Development: What We Put in Place This Year

We’ve continued to listen closely to member feedback, and a few things are clear:

  • You want content that’s practical, accessible, price-sensitive, and directly relevant to the work you’re doing.
  • You value having options — in-person, virtual, on-demand — that fit around busy schedules and tight budgets.
  • You’re asking for more depth, more flexibility, and more support in growing your careers.

In response, we introduced several new courses this year: Contract Management, RFP Specialization, and the Introduction to Public Procurement. All three have seen strong engagement and have quickly become popular additions.

We also continued expanding learning opportunities that are part of your membership, including our webinar offerings and Global Best Practices — consistently one of the most requested formats from members.

We made meaningful progress in the publications space as well. This year marked the completion of the Cornerstones of Public Procurement series with the release of Introduction to Procurement in the Public Sector — wrapping up a multi-year effort to build a foundational learning library.

That said, we recognize there’s still work to do to raise awareness. Survey data shows 63% of survey respondents are either unfamiliar with our publications or unsure how to access them. Blogs and Global Best Practices continue to be the most accessed, pointing to a clear opportunity to increase visibility and usage.

We also focused on enhancing the event experience — broadening content offerings, deepening attendee engagement, and expanding on-demand access. Our goal is to ensure that wherever you choose to connect with NIGP, the experience supports your learning goals and fits into your schedule.

What We’re Learning from You

The results of an educational survey I conducted this spring reflect a strong alignment between what NIGP offers and what members are looking for:

  • 96% say our education supports their goals.
  • 98% are satisfied with the delivery mix.
  • 96% are applying what they’ve learned directly to their jobs.
  • 91% rate the quality of learning as good to excellent.
  • 95% of those who’ve taken leadership training view NIGP as a quality provider.
  • But limited time and funding continue to be consistent barriers.

These insights confirm we’re moving in the right direction — but they also highlight where we still have work to do.

Looking Ahead

The path forward focuses on a few core priorities:

  • Learning innovation — We’re exploring how AI, personalization, and adaptive platforms can make learning more flexible, personalized, and easier to integrate into your day-to-day. Our goal is to help you overcome the time challenge by delivering content that adapts to your schedule and learning style.
  • Career development — Mentorship and our Pathways Concierge service now provide one-on-one career guidance for both individuals and agencies. As we continue to expand this area, our goal is to help you work more efficiently and effectively across the wide range of offerings available through NIGP. Whether you're just starting out or aiming to take the next step, we want to ensure you're supported in navigating your options and reaching your professional goals.
  • Expanded access — We continue to hear and recognize the challenges around professional development funding. Addressing these barriers is a top priority. That means providing more price-sensitive offerings and flexible content formats that meet professionals wherever they are in their journey. Our goal is to ensure that cost and scheduling limitations do not stand in the way of meaningful growth and learning.
  • Integration — We’re building a more connected learning ecosystem — a web of education, events, publications, and credentials that flow together to support continuous learning. Our aim is to make it easier for you to move seamlessly between offerings, building on each experience to support your long-term professional growth.
  • Thought leadership — We’re doubling down on research and publication efforts that explore where the profession is headed next. Based on feedback from our spring educational survey, members are especially interested in deeper exploration of topics such as Artificial Intelligence and automation in procurement, advanced contract management and monitoring, tariffs and their impact on procurement strategy, construction-related procurement practices, and evolving leadership and workforce development strategies. These insights are helping shape our thought leadership agenda for the year ahead.

As we look to the new program year, we do so with a sense of momentum and gratitude. Thank you for your insights, for your participation, and for all the ways you help shape the future of public procurement. We’re excited about what’s next and honored to support you on the journey.
