The NIGP Certified Procurement Professional (NIGP-CPP) certification program has not only become the most sought-after certification for leaders in public procurement, but it’s now only the second procurement and contracting certification (NIGP and the National Contract Management Association [NCMA]) to ever achieve accreditation by the ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB), the most prestigious personnel certification accreditation program worldwide.
The NIGP-CPP is the only certification managed and administered through NIGP. What sets the NIGP-CPP apart from all others is that it’s a competency-based certification anchored in the Public Procurement Competency Framework that utilizes a scenario-based, modular exam to assess the technical competencies, skills, abilities, and behaviors required of procurement leaders.
When the Institute began to develop the NIGP-CPP in 2019, we built the program in consideration of the rigorous standards established by the ANSI National Accreditation Board and ISO 17024 Requirements. By earning ANAB’s accreditation, the achievement validates that our certification, attained by more than 1,400 procurement leaders throughout North America, meets those standards. We recognize that standards are critically important to the public procurement community which frequently incorporates ANSI and ISO standards in bid specifications and assessments.
ANAB ISO/IEC 17024 accreditation is the most recognized standard internationally. ISO/IEC 17024:2012 contains principles and requirements for a body certifying persons against specific requirements and includes the development and maintenance of a certification scheme for persons. Government agencies rely on ANAB credentialing accreditation to assure the competency of their programs. Such agencies include the U.S. Department of Defense, Department of Energy, Federal and State Occupational Safety and Health Administrations (OSHA) at the federal and state levels, and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Adherence to ISO/IEC 17024 represents a ground-breaking achievement for the NIGP-CPP certification program and an industry hallmark that unlocks a new level in procurement certification that delivers a world-class experience.
NIGP CEO, Rick Grimm says, "achieving this coveted accreditation is a testament to the excellence and relevance of the NIGP-CPP as a world-class certification program. It's a pinnacle achievement for the Institute and a deserved honor for NIGP-CPPs whose credential carries the weight of an international standard."
The NIGP-CPP recognizes and assesses how experienced procurement leaders deliver success to their organizations and supports their professional credibility and aspirations now and in the future. By creating a strategic vision for the procurement profession based on thorough research and assessing the needs of their members, NIGP continues its mission to elevate the public procurement profession.
The ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB) is a wholly owned subsidiary of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). ANAB is the largest multi-disciplinary accreditation body in the western hemisphere, with more than 2,500 organizations accredited in approximately 80 countries. ANAB provides accreditation and training and serves as architects for the conformity assessment structure of industry-specific programs. To learn more visit www.anab..org.
