NIGP: The Institute for Public Procurement and ICLEI—Local Governments for Sustainability USA (ICLEI USA) Sign Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)


The MoU solidifies a strong, collaborative relationship between our organizations for the betterment of public procurement and for building more sustainable communities across the U.S.

January XX, 2024. Herndon, VA — NIGP: The Institute for Public Procurement and ICLEI—Local Governments for Sustainability USA (ICLEI USA) agree to jointly develop and disseminate effective professional development opportunities for procurement professionals in the sustainability space and local government climate action professionals. The organizations will collaboratively manage a comprehensive outreach program, making information easily accessible and available to procurement and climate action professionals across the nation.

Rick Grimm, CEO of NIGP stated, "The interconnection between NIGP and ICLEI USA will be far-reaching and have a profound impact on future generations and our global community."

NIGP and ICLEI USA agreed to establish regular communication channels to ensure consistent messaging on joint activities. Potential areas of collaboration include a Sustainable Public Procurement Toolkit for local governments and educational opportunities on Procurement as a Climate Innovation Tool.

“Together, we will support climate action and procurement professionals with understanding and implementing sustainable procurement at a local level,” shared Alyssa Wilbur, Circular Pathway lead and Program Officer at ICLEI USA.

The organizations are committed to making the industry aware of their strategic partnership and share a primary obligation to efficiently serve the needs of its members by delivering education and networking of the highest quality in a manner that allows for the most effective use of resources by each organization.

By harnessing the strengths of these two organizations, NIGP and ICLEI USA will shape the future to build a more socially responsible world for generations to come.
