The county aims to include qualified small, minority, and women-owned businesses on solicitation lists and ensure their participation whenever they are potential sources. The county also utilizes a list of such businesses published by the Department of Minority Business Enterprise and establishes delivery schedules that encourage their participation. Additionally, the county cooperates with the United States Small Business Administration, Department of Minority Business Enterprise, and other agencies, and participates in local and regional small, minority, and women-owned purchasing fairs. The Director of General Services is authorized and directed to develop and implement procedures to maximize the opportunities for small businesses and businesses owned by minorities and women to participate in county procurement transactions. The policy was adopted by the Board of Supervisors on January 23, 2007.
