The purpose of the plan is to ensure the effective use of all county, public, private, and volunteer transportation resources during a disaster. The plan is organized under the leadership of the Low Country RTA Director, who is responsible for coordinating transportation assistance to all organizations within the county. Transportation operations will be controlled from the County EOC and/or Mobile Command Post. The Transportation Unit Leader will coordinate all transportation requirements during the disaster period. Requests for additional transportation resources will be made through the County EOC, with state and federal support being committed on a mission type basis. All county, public, private, and volunteer transportation organizations may be requested for assistance by the Transportation Unit Leader during the disaster period. The plan also includes preparedness and mitigation measures, such as developing plans and procedures, maintaining readiness posture, liaising with the County EMD and other organizations, reviewing and obtaining evacuation routes, and maintaining a list of transportation resources by type and availability.
