SPEC - Truck Mounted Concrete Mixer 2002

  • YEAR CREATED: 2002
  • ENTITY TYPE: Authority: Transportation
  • TYPE OF DOCUMENT: SPEC - Specification
The document is a specification for a truck-mounted mobile volumetric batch concrete mixer. It is prepared by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and is intended for use in the procurement process. The document includes general clauses and conditions, as well as specific specifications for the equipment. The equipment must be the latest improved model in current production and of quality workmanship and material. It must be new and not used, shopworn, or discontinued. The respondent must submit detailed specifications and literature on the equipment they propose to furnish. The unit should be completely assembled, adjusted, and ready for continuous operation upon delivery. All necessary parts should be furnished by the vendor and conform to industry standards. The unit must meet all safety, health, lighting, and noise regulations and standards in effect at the time of manufacture. TxDOT encourages the purchase of goods, equipment, and services with the least adverse environmental impact. Manufacturers are encouraged to comply with marking standards for plastic parts and use recycled plastics and materials. TxDOT is committed to procuring quality goods and equipment and encourages manufacturers to adopt ISO standards and obtain certification. Measurements will be given in both the English and metric system, with the English system measurements superseding the metric system in case of conflict. The specification describes a truck-mounted mobile volumetric batch concrete mixer that can transport dry ingredients, water, and admixtures stored in separate bins. The ingredients are proportioned volumetrically and mixed by a screw mixer auger while being elevated and discharged. The unit can deliver any desired mix and quantity of concrete, with the unused material remaining viable for future use. Units must meet the current Volumetric Mixer Standards and all government requirements. Examples of units meeting the specifications are provided, but TxDOT also allows for approved equal equipment. Equipment offered must have been in production for a minimum of two years and carry the VMMB certification plate. Respondents may be asked to provide references, and negative references may result in rejection of their response. The performance requirements for the unit include transporting, proportioning, mixing, and dispensing high-quality concrete meeting ASTM and AASHTO specifications. The unit must produce a minimum of 45 cubic yards of concrete per hour and print out a ticket showing the volume of concrete poured at the job location, as well as the amount of aggregate and cement used. The design requirements include certified welding performed per AWS standards, specifically AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code - Steel and D1.3 Structural Welding Code.
