The need for leadership development has never been more urgent. Regardless of size or industry, for organizations to survive in these highly volatile and complex business environments, they must develop leaders with the skills and organizational capabilities to thrive.

Leading for Impact was built with guidance from the NIGP Leadership Committee and is designed to address many of these challenges faced by our profession. 

Program Overview

1. Leading strategically and driving for results ​

  • Identifying key drivers for leadership regarding an organizations “Strategy Process” including the implications of culture. 
  • Clarifying the distinct Roles and Responsibilities within any strategy process. 
  • Applying the Five Phases of Decision-Making to think, act and influence strategically. 
  • Creating direction, alignment & commitment across organizational boundaries

2. Leading in times of change ​

  • Inspiring others to be adaptive to change with enthusiasm, responsibility, and ownership. ​
  • Understanding the distinct phases of any Change Process and how to recognize where any individual or group is located. ​
  • Mastering techniques for responding to multiple types of resistance to change in ways that empower genuine ownership and sustainability. ​

3. Identifying and building talent ​

  • Accurately distinguishing coaching from other support-based leadership roles. ​
  • Applying the Coaching Formula and the unique elements of the Coaching Process. ​
  • Applying the art of creating and asking transformative questions that enhance awareness, ownership and measured actions that build accountability. ​
  • Recognizing and enhancing the inherent individual strengths, challenges, and opportunities for every member of the team.

CHAPTER LEADERS

This customized program was developed for Chapter Leaders to strengthen chapter operations, increase member engagement, and elevate member services.  

Our program is structured around the Chapter Dashboard, a powerful tool for identifying challenges and opportunities, and driving success in your chapter.

What is Leading Through Action?

Chapters that thrive have several important things in common. These elements fall into four pillars. Leading through action is about finding your chapter’s sweet spot in each of these pillars.

This year Chapter Academy will take place in St. Louis, MO as part of Leadership Summit 2023. 

We will explore each of the four pillars through case studies, examples and peer-to-peer discussion.  

Key focal topics for this year’s program include:

  • Leadership
  • Member Engagement
  • Operations
  • Member Services
  • Leadership – focus on how we can build a volunteer pool and create strong leaders. 
  • Member Engagement – focus on how to drive member participation in our activities; explore new ways to engage members and how to track the engagement to improve it. 
  • Operations – focus on what it takes to create a smooth operation and explore the power of data and dashboards for better decision-making. 
  • Member Service – focus on identifying the right mix of activities that meet members needs.  The key resource and tool for all participants is the Chapter Dashboard introduced in 2022.

EMERGING LEADERS

This unique development program was created for high potential procurement leaders with aspirations to grow into more advanced positions within the profession.

It’s structured on the concept of emotional intelligence where participants learn about Leading the Self, Leading Others, and Leading Organizations. 

This 5-month hybrid program is limited to 30 people annually and runs for 5 months in total (program kick-off November 2022).

  • PROGRAM OVERVIEW

    The core competencies public procurement leaders need to succeed form the foundation of the Leaders Edge program. 

    Participants begin by taking the EQi 2.0 Emotional Intelligence and DISC Personality Assessments.  These are followed by 1:1 and group coaching sessions to help build self-awareness.  At the program's end in March, participants submit a final experience summary (1-page max.) highlighting their progress, accomplishments and plans for continued growth.

    Leaders Edge provides participants the blueprint to excel in three key areas:
