Overview

According to recent data, organizations from all sectors will continue to focus on sustainability in their procurement and supply management activities, including transportation. This webinar will offer an overview of sustainability and its three pillars (environmental, economic, social) and how they can apply to the procurement of transportation services.
 
While logistics management is an often-overlooked area of public procurement, there are many ways for procurement professionals to add value. These include ensuring diversity in supplier selection, considering of sustainable transportation means, and requiring sustainable packaging.


What You'll Learn

After completing this online training session, learners will be able to:
 
1. Identify the ways in which sustainability applies to transportation management.
2. Articulate the value that procurement professionals can bring to logistics management.
3. Distinguish the sustainable practices that can be required of suppliers.
 

Presenter Bio(s) 

Darin currently serves as chief procurement office for Cal Poly State University in San Luis Obispo, CA. He has over thirty years of procurement management experience in state and local government, higher education, and private industry. Darin speaks throughout the world on a variety of procurement topics, and his writings have been featured in Inside Supply Management, Government Procurement, Inside Supply Management, The Public Manager and The Journal of Public Procurement. His books include Warehousing and Inventory Control, Logistics and Transportation, and Effective Supply Management Performance. He has served on the faculty at numerous universities including Florida Atlantic University, University of Illinois, Portland State University, and Cal-Berkeley.
 
He holds a bachelor’s degree in Business/Political Science and master’s degrees in Acquisition Management and Educational Technology. Darin is a certified instructor for NIGP and served as their President in 2007. He has also served as a board member of the Universal Public Procurement Certification Council and the Public Procurement Research Center at Florida Atlantic University. In 2020 and 2021, Darin served as host of the podcast, The Evolution of Procurement.
 

Attendance for Individuals

In order to receive one contact hour, each member needs to register for the webinar individually in advance and then watch the live webinar. Your credit is tabulated by match between your login and your registration.

Attendance for Groups

There is a Group Sign-In Form provided with each webinar. The group sign-in form does not register anyone for the webinar, it just verifies live attendance. Each person will receive their login email on the day of the webinar – this verifies their registration. The group sign in form verifies that they watched the live webinar.

Cancellation Policy

Registration and payment must be received 24 hours prior to the course start date. After this time, registrations will be based on space availability.  A full refund, less a $75 administrative fee will be given for cancellations made in writing 31+ days prior to the seminar date by emailing RegistrationInfo@nigp.org. No refunds are given for cancellations received within 24 hours of the seminar start date. There are no refunds for no-shows. If the seminar is cancelled for any reason, NIGP's liability is limited to the registration fee only.  

Attendee substitutions within the same agency may be done at any time with email notification to NIGP. If attending via scholarship, please provide documentation verifying the scholarship issuer's name and contact information in lieu of payment information.
