Description

As a Procurement Specialist, you will play a key role in managing purchases in accordance with the South Carolina Consolidated Procurement Code and University policies. You’ll work closely with departments across campus to support sourcing and purchasing, provide training and guidance, and identify opportunities for process and cost optimization.

Duties include, but are not limited to: Serve as a buyer for purchases from statewide contracts and assist with procurement of non-state contract requests which may or may not require solicitation. Provide training and guidance to the campus community. Look for trends to optimize XX (spend, vendors, processes, etc). Provide backup on an as-needed basis to the rest of the Procurement team. Special projects as assigned.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of procurement-related experience. Equivalent education, training and experience may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business; five years of procurement experience with a South Carolina higher education institution, state agency, or school district; CPSM, CPPB, or other procurement certification; experience with Lean or Six Sigma business practices.
  • Hands-on experience with RFQs, RFPs, and negotiating vendor contracts.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Must have knowledge of the best practices and procedures for procuring goods and services, along with contracts and management thereof.
  • Must be able to analyze detailed information.
  • Must have excellent organization, communication, customer service, and computer skills, ideally with the ability to create detailed Excel analyses from varying types of data sets.
  • Must be able to handle multiple concurrent job tasks and manage interruptions efficiently.
  • Understanding of process improvement a plus.

Working Conditions

  • This is an in-person, on-location position.
  • High level of detail; constant interruptions; customer contact (external and internal); multiple concurrent job tasks; reading and reasoning; occasional one-day and overnight travel for training and seminars.
