The document provides information on the adoption of RFID technology within the public sector. A survey was conducted among public sector procurement officers to understand the current state of RFID adoption, market trends, systems requirements, and expenditures. The survey found that 9% of public sector organizations are currently using RFID, while 19% are considering its adoption. The majority of respondents believed that RFID technology was still in its introduction phase, and many organizations considered themselves laggards in RFID adoption. The survey also revealed that incorporating RFID into existing infrastructure and cost were implementation challenges. The study highlighted that current users of RFID considered it a mainstream technology, but not a core technology critical to their organization's future success. Users also reported higher acceptance of RFID technology among top management and frontline employees compared to non-users/non-adopters. The survey was conducted by the National Institute of Governmental Purchasing, Inc. (NIGP) in collaboration with researchers from East Carolina University.
