Prince William County Procurement Services is seeking a procurement professional with a passion for supporting Fire and Rescue personnel and systems; who is enthusiastic about having an essential role in critical projects and leveraging their procurement expertise to find creative solutions from a procurement and fire department perspective. The Department of Fire & Rescue System (FRS) is comprised of both career and volunteer personnel. The department is the second largest in the state of Virginia providing Fire & Rescue Services to a diverse & growing agency. Currently there are 22 stations within the system with 3 new stations planned.Requirements
The successful candidate will support the Department of Fire and Rescue Services (DFR) by: providing procurement guidance to preserve the integrity of the procurement process leading the formal solicitation process on behalf of the DFR career and volunteer personnel except for capital procurements reviewing procurement transactions for compliance serving as the department’s primary procurement resource developing effective professional relationships to build teamwork and trust managing simultaneous priorities with poise and determination acting as a liaison between DFR Logistics and the PWC Procurement. Understanding the DFR procurement cycles to ensure the department has the goods and services it requires to serve the citizens of Prince William County Work with DFR leadership to navigate the grey areas between the departments to ensure a continuity of services Limited understanding and/or demonstrated ability for attention to detail supporting an agency where specifications and standards are exact This position is part of the Finance Department in the Procurement Services Division and will report to the Assistant Director of Finance for Procurement Services. The position will be embedded several days a week at the DFR Logistics Complex located in Manassas. The procurement officer will be required to be on site at DFR Logistics as determined by the DFR Procurement Manager and the Assistant Director of Finance for Procurement Services. PREFERENCES – The successful candidate will have: Experience providing procurement guidance to local government departments in Virginia Virginia Contracting Associate (VCA), Virginia Contracting Officer (VCO), Certified Professional Public Buyer (CPPB), Certified Public Procurement Officer (CPPO), or other nationally recognized procurement certification Knowledge of Fire & Rescue systems Strong interpersonal and communication skills Capability to switch between tasks as needed Experience developing reliable and efficient systems for balancing priorities and workload for themselves Demonstrated experience evaluating potential solutions and determining the best course of action A sense of urgency balanced with methodical consideration Familiarity with the Fire and Rescue systems
