Job Overview: The University of Texas at Austin seeks an individual to work with University personnel in regards to the contracting process. The individual will review, negotiate, draft, revise, and amend contracts to ensure compliance with all applicable policies, rules and laws.

The individual will help on contracts that include: license agreements, loan agreements, sale agreements, financial agreements, purchase agreements, agreements for providing goods and/or services, confidentiality agreements, interlocal and interagency agreements, and any other type of document or contract as requested. Apply contract formation knowledge to independently address a variety of contract issues. Provide thorough information to requesting college or department regarding proposed and final negotiated terms and associated risk exposure. Assist in drafting and reviewing procurement documents, which include all formal and informal procurements. Communicate clearly and effectively in person and in writing with internal and external persons concerning contracting, purchasing, and all issues which relate to creating, enforcing, and performing contracts. Work collaboratively, effectively and efficiently with all internal and external people. Provide University personnel with training and information regarding University, State of Texas, UT System, and UT System Board of Regents processes, procedures, and contract development. Correctly submit agreements for approval and signature by the University's President and /or the Board of Regents. Consistently adhere to contract and document tracking requirements. Perform administrative functions including, logging documents, closing files, filing, and creating reports for the Legislative Budget Board, U.S. Department of Education, Transparency report and other reports as requested. Maintain strong problem-solving skills in collaboration with internal and external contacts, which emphasizes strong commitment to provide excellent customer services. Train University personnel on the contracting process. Utilize strong organizational skills combined with an ability to organize and follow through with all projects relating to contracts. Other duties as assigned.



  • Duty (40%): Reviewing, revising and drafting contracts as well as other agreements or documents and making changes to agreements in order to comply with University Rules, which include the Rules and Regulations of the Board of Regents of The University of Texas System, the rules and policies of The University of Texas System, and the rules and policies of The University of Texas at Austin, as well as State of Texas and federal laws. Working with University administration, attorneys, employees, and UT System administration and employees for contracting process including electronic contract management system.
  • Duty (40%): Corresponding with vendors and University personnel including explaining effects of provisions and clauses, risks associated with clauses, and the legal effect of clauses. Performing administrative tasks including: logging, routing, distributing, storing, and reporting in regards to contracts. Creating and completing reports for the Legislative Budget Board, Transparency report, reports to State and federal government and reports as requested.
  • Duty (20%): Reviewing and resolving procurement issues, ensuring that departments comply with procurement laws, and training University employees about procurement and contracts.


  • High School Degree. Attention to detail and excellent customer service skills. Ability to work in a professional manner as both a self-starter and a team member. Strong business process skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Excellent organizational skills. Proficient at Microsoft Office Products and the Internet. Certified by the Texas Comptroller with a Certified Texas Contract Developer or Certified Contract Texas Contract Manager. Either certification must be obtained within nine months of being hired.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's Degree from a four year institution of higher education. Working knowledge of Docusign and Jaggaer's Contract + (formerly known and Total Contract Manager). Currently is a Certified Texas Contract Developer or Certified Contract Texas Contract Manager.

Travel Required: Less than 5%.

Working Conditions: Work within standard office conditions. Repetitive use of a keyboard at workstation is required. Conversing on the phone throughout the day. Climbing stairs is required. Ability to work with a scanner, computer and copier throughout the day. Lift, carry and file paper files. Use of manual dexterity. Security and confidentiality sensitivity. Criminal background check will be conducted. Continuously work with a high volume of contracts and purchase order with short pressure of deadlines. Working more than forty hours per week may be required. Work in shared office space with noise and other distractions.
