The City of Chesapeake is recruiting entry-level or experienced professionals to serve as a Procurement Specialist I/II/III. The City will provide training in the first year to test for the Virginia Contracting Associate (VCA) certification. There is also a career progression program in place that provides procurement specialists the opportunity to advance through the I, II and III level in as quickly as 24 months! Hiring ranges: PSI: $53,683 to $69,800; PSII: $51,009 to $66,500; PSIII: $53,683-$69,800. Hiring salary dependent on qualifications/experience. $2,000 sign-on bonus for new hires and hires from other City of Chesapeake departments. The City will compensate for experience in public procurement, especially at the local government level.Requirements
Procurement Specialist III: Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in purchasing, marketing, business management, or a closely related field. In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this class requires a minimum of three years of related, full-time equivalent experience. Procurement Specialist II: Requires a bachelor’s degree or any equivalent combination of education and experience in purchasing, marketing, business management, or a closely related field. In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this class requires a minimum of two years of related, full-time equivalent Procurement Specialist I: Requires a bachelor’s degree or any equivalent combination of education and experience in purchasing, marketing, business management, or a closely related field. In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this job class requires a minimum of one year of related, full-time equivalent experience or a minimum of three years of full-time experience in a position that requires the following professional skills: coordination of people, programs, tasks and/or money; written and verbal communication; customer service; attention to detail; and working in a team environment. SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES: Requires a valid driver’s license and driving record in compliance with City Driving Standards. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Emergency operations support work and work locations may be outside of normal job duties.Application Process
