Upon successful completion of this course participants will be able to:
  • Identify and define terms, concepts and principles of the contract administration process
  • Identify contract risk and plan appropriate mitigation
  • Develop the CAP and PAP for a given case study
  • Recommend an appropriate remedy when given a contractual problem or issue
  • Apply a process to handle a performance problem
  • Describe and apply dispute resolution methods
  • Closeout a contract including conducting a contract analysis
  • Describe how contract administration can be continually improved to enhance contract performance in accordance with the commonly accepted practices of the profession


This class provides a framework for examining contract administration by focusing on essential elements of the discipline. The intent is for the student to develop a strong understanding of the complexities of contract administration and recognize the importance of planning, monitoring, and proactive insight into and oversight of contract performance. Practical examples, discussion, group exercises and case studies will be used throughout the course.

Intended Audience

This course is designed for contract managers at every level.


Though no prerequisites are stipulated for this class, successful participants should have one to two years of public procurement experience prior to enrolling. Others may find completion of Introduction to Public Procurement and Developing and Managing Requests for Proposals to be of benefit.

Requirements of Participants to Receive Certificate of Completion

  • Attendance at the entire course is mandatory. NIGP does not issue partial CEU credits or contact hours.
  • In order to receive credit for the course, participants must pass a final assessment
  • A course evaluation must be completed prior to the completion of the course.
  • Students will receive the Certificate of Completion after completing the final assessment and course evaluation.
