The NIGP Leadership Summit Experience

A whole new way to learn, engage, network, and grow.

Leadership Summit was a 3-day immersive learning experience designed around 5 broad topical themes that are most critical to the modern procurement leader’s organizational strategy. These interactive workshops were led and facilitated by procurement thought leaders and industry experts within each theme and required full participation from attendees to drive meaningful and actionable results.

Given the interactive nature of these sessions, attendee participation was crucial to the experience. The workshop sessions were built to maximize collaboration and dialogue for a fully engaging learning experience where the Wisdom of The Crowd drives successful outcomes. During each successive day of the conference, attendees dived deeper and explored more of the intricacies and nuances of the theme. Working within their theme grouping, attendees co-created an action plan of the most salient and actionable ideas that they will implement within their organizations.  The themes were the following:

THE EXPERIENCE: PRE-ANAHEIM

Your learning experience begins in August. Here’s what you can expect:

1. Review and select the topical theme you want to learn more about at Leadership Summit. Leadership Summit is built around following a single theme throughout the entire conference to provide a more in-depth learning experience and to create an effective action plan on the last day.

2. Engage with your Peers and Facilitators on the Leadership Summit Community on NSite

3.  Participate in NIGP Forum virtual from August 23 – 26.  Attend a short orientation session on Leadership Summit.

Saturday, September 11, 2021

 

Get ready to learn, engage, network and grow

1. Welcome to the Awards Celebration & Dinner on Saturday from 6PM – 9PM

2. Pick up your learning journal to document your experience, outline key takeaways and create an action plan. (During the conference scribes will be actively taking notes on key concepts and ideas so you will have access to the outcomes from all 5 topical themes).

3. Engage with peers, attend keynote sessions, learning labs, crucial conversations, exhibit hall, and more.

THE EXPERIENCE: DAY 1
Sunday, September 12, 2021

 

Focus for the Day:

Laying the foundation by defining themes, key terms and challenges within the context of the public procurement industry.

Engage with Manley Feinberg, CSP as you learn how to gain laser focus, no matter what task you are facing, and utilize your momentum in an effective way. Small group dialogue and report outs close the session, providing for an engaging morning.

Lunch on your own and an opportunity to build your network.

1:30PM – 3:00PM

Learning Lab: Your facilitators guide you through an active discussion as you establish a common understanding and framework. Throughout the session you will engage in peer discussions and report outs that build on the ideas presented.

Learn how to communicate in a way that gets your ideas heard and encourages the cooperation of others. Take away tools that will empower you to communicate at all levels within your organization and effectively build trust within your own team. Sarita will share her Top 10 Positive Communication Phrases and a 7-item Leadership Assessment.

Small Table Activity & Discussion – Sarita Maybin
Total Teamwork Part II:  Interactive Team Simulation
This fun, high-energy team activity will reveal the roles that team members play and provide insights into your real-life team. Learn strategies for improving team interaction and employee engagement.

10:30AM – 2:00PM

Expo and Lunch: Visit our robust products exposition where you can network with over 100 suppliers and discover the latest and greatest products and services available to the public procurement sector.  Lunch will be served each day during exhibit hall hours

2:15PM – 3:15PM

Learning Lab: Your facilitators continue your journey from Day 1 by focusing on applying what you learned from Day 1 within your organization. Throughout the session you will engage in peer discussions and report-outs that build on the ideas presented.

Putting your learning into action by creating a realistic action plan.

Embracing the Power of Change - Join your peers as they open the last day of the Summit by exploring what it means to be a Change Agent. Hear on-the-ground stories of their role and experiences as they move their organization to adopting and/or evolving within their organizations, the five themes we focused on during the Summit.

Learning Lab: This final lab provides an opportunity to begin working through the Action Plan template provided. Samples and resources are provided along with active group discussions to help you create a realistic and actionable plan.

Crucial Conversations: Before our final keynote speaker, you are provided with focused time to work on your action plan and an opportunity to discuss in small groups. In conclusion, you will select a small support group (3-4 people) to exchange contact information, establish a call schedule, and orient one another to goals/next steps to ensure successful implementation of your plan.
