What is the difference of Agency membership vs. Individual membership?
An agency membership category provides an agency with 11 different category rates depending upon the size of the organization. An employee who leaves the agency and is no longer employed by the agency, can be replaced by another employee.

Each member agency shall be represented by an individual professional representative who is currently and directly involved with the public procurement profession. This individual shall be designated as the "Agency Representative". All persons designated as Agency Members are entitled to all the privileges of membership, which include petitioning and voting rights and eligibility to serve as a member of a national committee and the Agency Representative is eligible to serve as a member of a national committee or officer of the Board of Directors.

An Individual membership is a single, non-voting membership, is exclusive to that particular individual and cannot be transferred to another individual.

How do I apply for membership?
1) You can apply for membership using our online application: https://www.nigp.org/common/applications/memberfm.htm

When will my membership become active?
Your membership becomes active immediately upon receipt of your credit card information or with a faxed/mailed copy of your agencies Purchase Order request.

How will I be notified of my PIN and password so I can access the Members Only areas of the NIGP web site?
Once your membership is accepted, you will receive an email notification informing you of your PIN and password and of the various Member’s-Only benefits. The Agency Representative or Individual Member will receive a New Member Packet with a Welcome Letter, Membership Card, Membership Certificate and information on the different membership benefits and educational opportunities available to our members.

The Agency Representative will receive the agency member cards and certificates for all members within that agency. The Agency Representative will also be our contact person for agency renewal notices, invoicing and if changes to the membership are desired.

If I change agencies, does my membership with NIGP complete it’s annual term?
With an agency membership, your membership belongs to the agency. When you leave an agency, your membership stays with the agency.

Can I get an individual membership and have my agency pay for the membership?
The Individual membership was designed for individuals employed in a public purchasing organization whose agency (1) cannot fund membership in professional organizations, or (2) will not fund membership in professional organizations, or (3) does not include the individual in its membership; or (4) a FORMER PUBLIC PROCUREMENT PROFESSIONAL who is now self-employed or employed in the private sector and wishes to maintain NIGP membership affiliation. NIGP is governed by the highest ideals of honor and integrity in all public and personal relationships in order to merit the respect and inspire the confidence of the organization and the public being served. As a condition of membership, it is expected that our members will follow the ethical principals as outlined in NIGP’s Code of Ethics.

If I join a chapter will I also be a national member? Get seminar and Forum discounts?
Membership in your local chapter does not provide you with full access to national member benefits and discounts however, you do receive chapter member discounts for classroom and online seminars, Webinars, and registration at our annual Forum Products and Exposition.

What are the benefits of joining a local chapter?

You can attend NIGP seminars at chapter-member pricing, prepare for professional certification that is administered through the Universal Public Purchasing Certification Council (UPPCC) and learn about new career opportunities and promotions available in your local or region.

Many chapters offer a wealth of services, which can vary from chapter to chapter. Typically, some of these services include:

  • Local and regional meetings, workshops, conferences and trade shows.
  • Opportunities to develop cooperative purchasing relationships.
  • Assisting members in finding more efficient purchasing methods and best practices.
  • Promoting uniform public purchasing laws and simplified standards and specifications.
  • Informative newsletters that keep members on top of the latest developments in the procurement profession.
  • Access to educational scholarship programs.
