Course Objectives:

Upon completion, each participant in the webinar should be able to:
 

Apply for the Achievement of Excellence in Procurement Award,
Encourage development of excellence,
Provide benchmarks for continued excellence, and
Increase awareness of public procurement as a profession.
 
Course Outline:
Review the history of the Achievement of Excellence in Procurement (AEP) Award program
Review the AEP criteria
Discuss the application evaluation & scoring process
Provide helpful hints in submitting an AEP application
Discuss how & when successful applicants are notified and where the AEP trophy is presented.
 
Presenter's Biography: Kathleen Bender has worked in public procurement for over 10 years with the City of Tucson, AZ. She received her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Arizona in 1995. She received her Certified Purchasing Manager designation from ISM in 2002 and her Certified Professional Public Buyer designation from the UPPCC in 2006. Ms. Bender is currently the Contract Administrator over the Service Contracting Division for the City of Tucson. She is serving her first term on the Board of Directors for the National Purchasing Institute (NPI) and is a member of the evaluation committee for the Achievement of Excellence in Procurement (AEP) award. The City of Tucson’s Procurement Department is one of only six government entities in the United States to receive the Achievement of Excellence in Procurement award from the National Purchasing Institute for all twelve years since its inception.

Beth D. Fleming, C.P.M., A.P.P. has held position of the Director of Purchasing for Denton County since 1992. Beth received her BBA from Texas Woman's University and has received lifetime C.P.M. and A.P.P. certifications. She received her CPPO in 2007. She has served in many professional positions including HGAC Cooperative Purchasing Advisory Council, TASB Local Government Cooperative Board, Past President for the Texas County Purchasing Association (TCPA) and Past President for the National Purchasing Institute (NPI). She has served on the Affiliate Support Council and the Executive Committee for ISM. Ms. Fleming is the author of Buying E-Procurement for Government Agencies: Funding Models and Challenges, 2005, published by Decision Science Institute. Ms. Fleming currently serves as Chair for the Achievement of Excellence in Procurement Award® established by NPI. Under her leadership, the Denton County Purchasing Department is one of only six government entities in the United States to receive the Achievement of Excellence in Procurement award from the National Purchasing Institute for all twelve years since its inception.

Cheryl K. Turney has worked in public purchasing for over 18 years, the last 9 years as the Purchasing Manager for the City of College Station. She received her Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Sam Houston State University in 1986 and her Certified Purchasing Manager designation from ISM in 1994. She is currently on the Board of Directors for the Texas Public Purchasing Association, the Local Government Purchasing Cooperative, and her local Better Business Bureau. The City of College Station is the recipient of the Achievement of Excellence in Public Procurement Award for eleven out of the last 12 years it has been in existence.
