Suggested Swearing-In Procedure for Chapter Officers

Installation of Officers as a Group

  1. Introduction of " Board Representative" by Master of Ceremonies (Usually the incoming Chapter President)
     
  2. Board Representatives
  1. Brief remarks indicating his her pleasure to represent the Board and to participate in the Ceremony
     
  2. " We will now proceed with Installation of Officers."

Indicated that officers have been elected in accordance with the Bylaws of the Chapters-read the list of Officers-President, etc.

  1. Install (Swear-in) each Officer separately, beginning with the President, using the following:

"Do you, ___________swear or affirm that you will abide of by the Code of Ethics and the Aims and Objective of the National Institute of Governmental Purchasing; that you will faithfully perform that duties of _____________ of the ________________Chapter of NIGP in accordance with the Bylaws of NIGP and the _________________Chapter of NIGP, so help you God."

Answer: " I do"

  1. After the Officer and/or Directors have been installed, they should remain standing and the Board Representative will then present the "Chapter" to the Chapter President, reading the pertinent parts (if the list of Chapter members is too numerous to read, omit that part by indicating the number of Chapter members); then present the Charter and congratulate the President and Officers. (Pictures should always be taken of this part of the Ceremony.)
  1. The Officers and/or Director are to be seated, and the Board Representative should make a very short speech congratulating the Chapter members on coming together to work for greater professionalism in public purchasing; the need to participate in NIGP Programs and to support both Chapter and the National Organization.
  1. The Master of Ceremonies will take over.

Installation of Officers - Individuals

  1. (Call up names, Except President)
     
  2. Will you face me? I have before me (name and office)
     
  3. You have been duly elected to your respective offices by your chapter members. Do you promise to uphold the responsibilities of your office and work toward the betterment of this Chapter in accordance with the objectives, Code of Ethics, and the Bylaws of NIGP and the (name of Chapter)?
     
  4. Will you now face the audience?
     
  5. Members stand-up (not guests or spouses)
     
  6. Do you promise that you will support your newly elected officers, and assist them in any way you can? If so, signify by saying "I do"
     
  7. Will you please be seated?
     
  8. Will you face me, again?
     
  9. On behalf of the NIGP Board of Directors and Officers, I hereby install you as the new officers of (name of Chapter) for (year).
